Youth crime is a fascinating area of criminology and our degree, taught in one of the oldest university criminology departments in the UK, builds specialist expertise through both theory and practice in youth justice settings. Our criminology department continually produces internationally respected research to investigate models of crime, including youth crime. Alongside a solid grounding in the fundamentals of criminology, you will explore issues of youth crime and youth justice from historical, theoretical, policy and practice perspectives and critically examine the role of 'young offender'. The course combines theory with the study of real-life case studies from within criminal justice settings. We also support you to undertake a placement in the youth justice system where you will gain vital practical and professional experience.
