There is a strong interdisciplinary research culture, offering quantitative, ethnographic and textual research methodologies and a growing practice- based research environment. Research degrees differ from taught degrees in that most of the students' time is devoted to the individual pursuit of a research project. The students work independently carrying out research, experimentation and data-gathering in their chosen field. However, each student's supervisors will provide close support and mentoring throughout. Areas of research include: film; media; cultural studies; sociology.
