Combining theory and practice, this course aims to provide a strategic and conceptual understanding of the contemporary tourism sector. It will raise critical awareness of the current trends and challenges in the field, from sustainable tourism development, to digital marketing and cultural heritage management. The course embeds and applies the key business disciplines of marketing, finance and Human Resource Management (HRM) to the tourism sector. In addition, it also includes the subject areas of operations management, sustainable tourism management, intercultural competencies and new business opportunities. Why choose this course? This course has been designed to provide both a strategic understanding of the tourism industry and related sectors, as well as a managerial perspective of how to run such operations. With a focus on future employability, there are opportunities to practice industry-relevant analytical tools (e.g. value chain analysis, internal & external environment analysis, time series, etc.) for leadership and management positions within the global tourism industry. Youâ??ll have opportunities to develop your own analytical, organisational, problem solving, marketing and project management skills, together with an appreciation of the diversity of cultures involved in developing and managing international tourism. We offer an interactive and internationally diverse learning environment with students and staff from all around the world. Members of our teaching team have industry and academic experience, with some having worked as consultants for regional, national and international organisations such as UNESCO, destination management organisations, tourism boards and museums, and others with research expertise in the tourism field, in areas such as tourism planning and policy-making, tourism operations management, cultural heritage tourism management, and sustainable tourism development. Opportunities to attend fieldtrips at home and abroad aim to provide real-world experience of tourism planning and destination management, at the same time offering opportunities to network and engage with the local community and tourism service providers. On graduation, you will have the opportunity to pursue a broad range of career opportunities, such as destination development, cultural service management or operations management with travel and tour operators and public sector organisations.
