The modules offered on the Nursing Studies course provide an opportunity to strengthen your CV in a number of ways. You might choose to examine approaches to managing individuals with long-term conditions or to enhance your knowledge of ethics and the law as these relate to nursing practice. For international students, the course provides access to discussion of a broad range of approaches to health care and the opportunity to compare and apply new knowledge. Modules are designed to promote the opportunity to expand the intercultural community and to share best practice. Your masterâ??s degree culminates with an opportunity to propose, design, conduct and report on a research project of relevance and potential benefit to your field of nursing. This enables you to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the philosophy and principles of research, as well as your competence and ability to subsequently carry out research independently and to commission, manage and evaluate the research activities in the field. Past students have examined a diverse range of topic areas, such as the role of the nurse in supporting women suffering domestic violence, the impact of standardisation on nursesâ?? professional autonomy and the use of complementary therapies by nurses in palliative care. Why choose this course? The aim of this course is to advance your knowledge base of professional nursing practice and to promote service development. Content is adaptive and takes account of current and future development needs within the dynamic and fast changing health and social care system. Analysing the role of the nurse in a wider context, we aim to provide you with a deeper understanding of the influence of other disciplines on nursing and healthcare. The focus of mandatory course content is the examination of contemporary issues in nursing, including the evidence base, role development in response to health care needs and service improvement, for example, and on the role and practice of the nurse. A range of optional modules may be studied to promote your development in specific areas of health and social care or nurse education, such as public health policy, ethics and law, leadership or perspectives of care for individuals with long-term conditions. We have excellent links with local employers, many of them members of our Faculty Partnership Group, which provides an input to course management and development. Following a critical review of this course, health and social care stakeholders were satisfied with the level of knowledge and transferable skills that students develop through the programmes.
