Why choose this course? Using a foundation of business and management knowledge, this specialist Masterâ??s course aims to develop a deep understanding of supply chain management (SCM) as it applies to a wide range of industries and sectors, both locally and globally. Designed to meet the accreditation requirements of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), the course offers you the opportunity to achieve an internationally recognised qualification which can prepare you for management roles in supply chain management, procurement, commercial and other related fields. An advantage of our course is the strong industry links developed through the teaching and applied research that we conduct in collaboration with industry. This enables us to organise various company study visits, which have previously included the BMW engine plant, Jaguar Land Rover assembly plant and Brose Ltd. We also aim to improve your business acumen, hearing directly from current practitioners through to guest lectures. These may include such topics as category management, supply chain management in small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), the circular economy and latest Industry 4.0 developments in SCM. The course is practical in nature; our teaching staff are experienced academics with a strong track record of working in industries such as automotive, aerospace, retailing, electrical engineering, power generation, agriculture, food, logistics, distribution and consultancy. You will have opportunities to analyse actual case studies to learn how SCM theory helps to underpin and improve real-life business practice. These will draw on a range of companies from around the world to demonstrate the strategic importance of SCM to achieving competitive advantage, supporting higher returns on investment and the development of profitable business opportunities. For example, you might study how Michel Dell pioneered new SCM strategies to grow Dell Computers into a world leading computer company or how Nissan used supplier development and performance management to help underpin their business turnaround from near bankruptcy to current global market leadership.
